Our story

I grew up in the horse world and was mentored in the beginning by my grandfather. I was fortunate to have the guidance of many great trainers, and went professional in 1984. I have worked in many areas of the horse business including, breeding farms, racetracks, professional show barns – both English and Western – and my favorite: riding schools. I have run a few notable schools in the past, including: Will Rogers Riding Academy, under trainer Micky Haden; San Diego Show Park, under trainer Julie Kubiceck; and San Marcos Equestrian Center, with Dennis Campbell.  I opened my own riding school at Ride America in Carlsbad, Calif., and at its peak, the school owned 25 lesson horses and had a little over 200 students.

My father's sudden death prompted my move to Bishop. I worked at Rock Creek Pack Station for four seasons. My mother, Diana Laird, retired from teaching in 2002 and since then we have partnered in a private training facility and riding school on our Double L Ranch. I still enjoy the challenge of training and the rewards it brings. My goal is to expand our riding school and encourage riders of all ages to find the joy and excitement of learning to ride.    – Linda Laird
